Hello!

For our A2 media coursework we have decided to create a teaser trailer, alongside a film poster and magazine cover. After discussing as a group and researching into various genres we have decided to focus on a horror/psychological thriller project.

We have began developing ideas and are starting to compile thoughts on shots, imagery, basic storylines and the design and layout of our poster and magazine cover.

For the stylistic aspect of our magazine we have decided to model ours on the covers of Empire. This is as it is probably the leading 100% film based magazine out there, therefore it is a tried and tested design and is generally striking.

Here are some examples of the Empire design:

I have noticed that many horror film posters are either one of two things:

1.) In your face designs that leave not much to the imagination that strongly put across the basis and shout out the genre of the film or,

2.) Simple iconic designs that allows the audience to think and maybe create interest by letting the audience focus on the imagery rather than genre.

Here are examples of 1:

Here are examples of 2:

Personally I prefar the second style as it personalises the film rather than categorising it with the direction of the horror film genre: an endless stream of gore driven mindlessness. i.e Hostel, Saw, See No Evil etc.
I look forward to the editing part I am most focusing on in my group!
