After deciding on our song we decided to look at other music videos for inspiration. While watching videos we looked for interesting camera shots, editing techniques/styles, mise en scene, and typical music video conventions. Above are some stills we found interesting and below are the reasons why;
1. Underdog -Youmeatsix : We particularly liked this video because of the silhouette effect in long shout. As you may have noticed no.7 is also a silhouette so this is a technique that we are very interested in incorporating.
2. Misery Business - Paramore : The aspect of this still that interested us is the background. We like the way that the word "riot" is scribbled over and over in different directions. We thought that this would be a good idea that we could use with the word "bitch" so this could be a possible template for our backdrop.
3. Alejandro - Lady Gaga : There is a line in Bitch that says "I'm a bitch when i walk my dog" When brain storming we decided that a good way of interpreting this line woiuld be to replace the dog for a man to give the impression that this girl has so much attitude that she holds all the power in relationships and is so beautiful that men just fall at her feet. We thought that this Lady Gaga video has the same connotations and ideology.
4. Jenny's Fashion Show - Gossip Girl : This still is actually from a television programme. In this scene there is a video playing on a screen which includes fast jump cut editing to create an edgy, upbeat feel. We thought this would be a good technique to use later in the song as the music crescendo's and the chorus is repeated several times to imply that the girl is wild and makes the world spin out out of control.
5. Only Girl In The World - Rihanna : We like the "rewind" effect here. As Rihanna throws here scarf out then, the slip is then rewound to make it appear as though she's catching it again. This could be used in our music video to again insinuate a girl with power.
6. Miss Nothing - The Pretty Reckless : We liked the levels in this video of Taylor Momsen crawling and rolling around the floor. This would be a good shot to use so that there is a variation of levels and shots in our video and if we rolled our backdrop across the floor it would also give the illusion of a different set even though we would still be filming in the studio.
7. Barcelona - The Plasticines : This is another silhouette shot, what is particularly interesting about this use of silhouette is that the artist is side on to the camera so that you can see her lip synching. This again could be used to vary shots and make our video visually interesting.
8. Teenage Dream - Katy Perry : We liked the shot of Katy's hair blowing in the wind, however this shot would be too tranquil for our music video so we decided that if we were to use a shot similar to this we could improvise and have our artist whipping her hair as she dances instead.
