We looked at numerous newspapers for our research and from this noticed the different layouts. Local newspapers tend to be quite busy on the front page, with various images. We looked at numerous different fonts, but decided to use ‘Constantia’ as this was the most popular font in our poll. This is likely to be due to the clear lettering and the simplicity. The format of each letter also looks similar to the different newspapers we have looked at and so conforms to the typical newspaper conventions.
Furthermore, we noticed the price, being quite low in comparison to national newspapers. This is likely to be due to the smaller target market, and so local newspapers rely on an area with much fewer people to purchase the product. The stories featured in local newspapers are mainly local; as this meets the consumer’s needs and also avoids competing with the larger national newspapers.
