The above passage is taken from the oxford dictionary. It is the definition of music.
"EXPRESSION OF EMOTION"
"ART"
As my project is a music video surely I should keep this in mind when creating it? Surely if I am making a project, where the main underlying theme is an expression, art, I should stick to my brief and create something in which makes you use your brain?
My music video is an expression, my music video is arty, however my music video represents the song, and tells a story through body language, through colour, through speed and through motion. I have listened to the beat, the words and the story of the song and interpreted it in my own way.
It tells the story of one main character, who could be in a dream, she could be in a certain scenario where the video shows her thoughts (down to how you interpret it). This girl is shape shifting, finding herself in all of these different characters. This is meant to express how she may have an identity problem and is unsure of herself (down to your interpretation). Shots of ink in water and glitter in water make a nice break between shots, and show thoughts/situations expanding and getting greater in proportion. All the while the video is picking up speed, movement and expression. I begin to layer up shots, to represent the conflict of identity or thoughts. For example theres a shot of one character as the bottom layer, who is calm and isnt moving that much, then in comparrison there is the same character on top who is frantic and looks scared/stressed. This obviously represents the conflicting ideas and thoughts. Also it represents being in a dream/nightmare as the characters and shots are all dream like and quirky. The shots of the hands and bodies on the lycra wall show trying to escape something and trying to get out but no matter how hard you try you cant (being in the dream/nightmare and you can't wake up).
The whole video is a representation and is an expression. The defintion of music.
Rant over, heather
